Target Skills
Mode: Visual
Principal skill(s) targeted: Spatial orientation
Spatial orientation, like visualization, is a major component of general spatial ability. It refers to the client's ability to topographically situate oneself within one’s environment, whether it is real or imagined. Spatial orientation is based on the development of topographical schemata; that is, a variety of perceptual fields whose principal characteristic is that of being able to be placed in relation to one another. It is by relating these perceptual fields that one is able to consider a universe of possible perspectives rather than depend on immediate perception of visual objects.
The capacity to orient oneself in space refers to more than the simple ability to move from one place to another. It represents an essential symbolic function that enables the client to better adapt to his/her environment.
